eCampusAlberta continues to achieve significant year-over-year growth, even as the organization looks towards its ninth anniversary this fall.
The consortium recorded a total of 16,213 registrations for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, surpassing the previous year’s total of 13,107 by 24 per cent and reaching another all-time high.
It was the seventh consecutive year of annual growth of 24 per cent or more.
"We are tremendously excited to be able to report to the public and our members another year of strong growth in registration numbers, as well as another all-time high,” says Dr. Tricia Donovan, Executive Director, eCampusAlberta.
“The past year has seen us grow in a number of significant ways, including total registrations, the progress made towards increasing online services for students and continually adding to the inventory of courses and programs available, which now total more than 700 courses and 60 programs," Donovan says.
"2010/11 proved to be another great year for this initiative and, as the year came to a close, we continued to merge operations with Alberta-North and welcomed Athabasca University as a new member. We look forward to working closely with our members to continue to increase access and build successes across the system,” she says.
Eleven of 14 members that offer courses saw growth in their registration numbers, with nine reporting growth of 15 per cent or more.
SAIT Polytechnic reported the most registrations at 2,998, followed closely by Grant MacEwan University with 2,945 (up 55 per cent from last year) and Bow Valley College with 2,416.
Northern Lakes College's registrations were up nearly five-fold, from 95 to 521. Lethbridge College’s registrations more than doubled compared with last year, reaching 1,040 (479 in the previous year) while Grande Prairie Regional College’s registrations almost doubled, from 188 to 363. Two additional institutions recorded more than 1,000 registrations for the second consecutive year – NorQuest College with 1,380 and Lakeland College with 1,217.
