EDMONTON – eCampusAlberta and the Community Learning Network are pleased to invite members of the media to attend the Forever Learning Luncheon 2012, which will be held today, from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton.
Edmonton Mayor, Stephen Mandel, recently proclaimed the week of March 24 to April 1 as International Adult Learners' Week to recognize the positive contributions of community based learning in Alberta. In the spirit of this proclamation, the Forever Learning Luncheon will celebrate the contributions to lifelong learning made by Albertans throughout the province and recognize the achievements of lifelong learners in all communities.
The Luncheon's program will include a welcome reception beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a served lunch and keynote address delivered by Ms. Manitok Thompson.
Manitok Thompson is the first female member of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly and has held multiple portfolios in the Nunavut and Northwest Territories governments. She is also renowned for her work in her community.
Several other distinguished guests will also be present, including His Honour, Colonel (Retired) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, accompanied by Her Honour, Mrs. Linda M. Ethell and City of Edmonton Councillor, Amarjeet Sohi, who will bring official greetings from the City of Edmonton and present the proclamation of International Adult Learners’ Week.
The Forever Learning Luncheon will also serve as the official launch of the Community Toolkit, a brand new website that was designed to assist community access facilitators with sharing learning support resources with clients in the communities in which they work.
The event will bring together community leaders, education institutions and community learning organizations, government representatives, employers, media and other community partners who are passionate about adult learning.
Please plan to join us for what is sure to be a spirited and lively event and keynote address by Manitok Thompson, a leader in lifelong learning.
This event is made possible with the generous support of NorQuest College and the CBC as well as community partners Campus Alberta Central, Volunteer Alberta, the Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association, Literacy Alberta, the Centre for Family Literacy and Innovative Communities Connecting and Networking (ICAN).
