CALGARY – Albertans are embracing the flexibility and convenience of online education more than ever as huge growth in registration numbers released by eCampusAlberta shows.
Alberta’s online education consortium of post-secondary institutions recorded 12,960 course registrations during the 2009/10 academic year (ending June 30), surpassing the 10,000 registrations milestone for the first time. Registrations are up 38 per cent over the previous year’s 9,414, the sixth consecutive year of annual growth of 29 per cent or more.
“It’s exciting as an organization when you reach a significant milestone such as 10,000 registrations. But to exceed the target by such a large margin as we have and to see continued double digit, year-over-year growth in registration numbers in the seventh year of operations illustrates that eCampusAlberta is offering an educational option that Albertans want and are using in increasing numbers,” says Tricia Donovan, Executive Director, eCampusAlberta.
“Our success also demonstrates our member institutions' commitment to working to create an online education system for Albertans that's among the best in the world,” Donovan says.
The eCampusAlberta consortium was established in 2002 to enable Alberta students to have increased access to the high quality online courses and programs offered by 15 Alberta post-secondary institutions. The number of courses and programs offered online continues to increase each year and now includes more than 400 courses and 60 certificates, diplomas and applied degrees.
Areas of study include: Business Administration, Disability Management, Early Learning and Child Care, Educational Assistant, Health Care studies, Hospitality Management studies, Human Resources, Management studies, Marketing, Nursing, Pharmacy studies and many other areas.
