Police Studies Extension

The program structure offers both theoretical and practical skills through a range of intervention strategies at various stages of the justice process. The curriculum is designed to emphasize skill development, and exploration of the essential attitudes and personal qualities that facilitate the application of justice.

Through a series of online learning activities, you will explore topics such as; the various roles of legislative bodies, courts, law enforcement, corrections and aftercare services in the community, human behaviour, minority group status and justice, crime prevention, police-citizen conflict, theoretical concepts in criminology, the aim and scope of criminal law.

To earn your Police Studies Extension Certificate, successfully complete the following six courses. There is no application required for the program. The courses may be taken in any order.

  • XJUS 10001 Canadian Criminal Justice Systems
  • XJUS 10002 Interpersonal Relationship Skills
  • XJUS 10003 Criminology Concepts
  • XJUS 10004 Human Diversity in Justice
  • XJUS 10005 Trends and Issues in Policing
  • XJUS 10006 Canadian Criminal Law

The six courses are eligible for transfer credit to the Mount Royal University Bachelor of Arts – Criminal Justice program.
